The U.S. Department of Justice has indicated that it will allow John Edwards to be prosecuted in an investigation into alleged campaign finance violations, North Carolina station ABC11 reports.

According to the local outlet, the 2008 presidential candidate is expected to be indicted in the case.

Reports: John Edwards may face criminal charges

John Edwards, the former North Carolina senator and two-time Democratic presidential candidate, may soon face federal campaign-finance charges stemming from an admitted affair with a former campaign aide, according to several news organizations.

Justice Department prosecutors have been investigating whether Edwards funneled money from political donors to Rielle Hunter, his mistress and the mother of his youngest child, to try to cover up the affair. ( Read more... )
