History
After the winner of the Josei Rock Vocalist Audition (女性ロックヴォーカリストオーディション) was announced to be Heike Michiyo, the five runner-ups (Nakazawa Yuko, Ishiguro Aya, Iida Kaori, Abe Natsumi and Fukuda Asuka) were offered a chance to debut as a group.
They went under the name Morning Musume and recorded this indie single, Ai no Tane, and were challenged to sell 50,000 copies on the streets within 5 days. If successful, they would make their major debut and be produced by Tsunku. They succeeded in their task and went on to become much more famous and popular than the winner of the audition.
